# Retention policies

> Configure organization retention for recordings, conversations, and audit events.

An organization can configure retention policies for these resource keys:

* `recordings`
* `conversations`
* `audit_events`

Policy management requires the `retention` scope and the **retention policies** entitlement.

## Set a policy

```bash theme={null}
curl -sS -X PUT "https://api.leamout.com/v1/retention-policies/recordings" \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $LEAMOUT_TOKEN" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{
    "retention_days": 90,
    "enabled": true
  }'
```

`retention_days` must be from 1 to 3650, and must not exceed your organization's effective plan limit.

List policies with `GET /v1/retention-policies/`. Delete a resource-specific policy with `DELETE /v1/retention-policies/{resource}`.

A configured policy determines retention behavior; it is not a request to immediately erase all matching data. Review the separate resource lifecycle before relying on a particular deletion schedule.
