Voice Agents can use tools during a live conversation. Tools belong to an agent and have a declared type, name, description, JSON parameters schema, and optional execution settings. The current tool types are builtin and webhook. A webhook tool can also define an endpoint_url and timeout_ms.

Create a tool

Tool definitions are validated before they can be used. Grant only the external permissions each tool needs, and validate incoming tool requests at your own endpoint.

Manage tools

  • GET /v1/voice-agents/{voice_agent_id}/tools/ lists an agent’s tools.
  • PATCH /v1/voice-agents/{voice_agent_id}/tools/{tool_id} updates a definition.
  • POST /v1/voice-agents/{voice_agent_id}/tools/{tool_id}/rotate-signing-secret rotates a signing secret.
  • DELETE /v1/voice-agents/{voice_agent_id}/tools/{tool_id} removes a tool.
A model request does not bypass the configured tool policy: execution is validated by the runtime and tied to the active agent session.
